Marcos Rey is a painter born in Spain in 1978. His training is self-taught. He has been dedicating himself exclusively to painting for more than 10 years, much of that time working in his studio in Arequipa, Peru, from where he has been able to evolve both in his technique and in his particular way of understanding painting. His learning is constant and he draws mainly from the old masters and contemporary artists whom he admires, studying their works and understanding the processes of each one of them. His references have been changing over the years in parallel with his artistic progression. Currently they are Rembrandt, Michaël Borremans, Nicola Samori, Vincent Desiderio, Odd Nerdrum, Golucho, Felipe Alonso, and a long list of realist masters of the 19th century, such as Vilhelm Hammershøi, Emile Friant, Abbott Handerson Thayer, Charles Frederic Ulrich, etc.
Thanks to collectors, galleries, museums and competitions, his works have been seen in countries such as Japan, France, the United Kingdom, Holland, Spain, Italy, Morocco, the United States, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. Especially highlighting 3 of his drawings that are part of the collection of the MEAM (European Museum of Modern Art) in Barcelona.
He has obtained several international prizes for drawing and painting. Among those who stand out having been a Finalist in the “Figurativas” Contest, organized by the “Fundació de les Arts i els Artistes” in Barcelona and 2 Honorable Mentions in the “ModPortrait” Contest, organized by “Galería Artelibre” and the “Fundació de les Arts i els Artistes ”in Spain.
